Brother and K+12

I was like,

when I first read the book review by my favorite brother.
Magaling sya sa Math, that is for sure at hindi maitatanggi yon. At ganun nga sya. But that was only OUR thought (not only mine cause even my sister and my mother think that way). How mean, right? Haha. Pero ganon talaga, ate ako eh. Like a boss lang ang dating, kala kung sinong magaling. HAHA!

Ate Imee: Love is the feeling from the hypothalamus.
Eydi: It's from the Cerebellum.
Jana: The Pituitary Gland.
Mama: What is the meaning of Cerebellum?
Aeron: It is the upper part of the Medulla Oblongata

We were dumbfounded, really. :O
But when I asked, "Are you sure about that?"
He answered, "Di nga lang ako sigurado."
At ayun, natawa nalang kami.

Project nila, magbasa ng isang Novel or any Literary book at gumawa ng isang simpleng book review.
Few weeks before, he was already asking me what book should he read for this project. I told him just pick any book I have that would catch his interest. I just learned about the book he picked the day he was asking for my help. The book was THE VALKYRIES, written by Paulo Coelho.
Aeron with his medals. 1st honorable. (Akalain mo yun?) Haha
I'm just one proud sister.
But just yesterday night, we laughed at him again when he said:
Aeron: Kalinya ko ng gwapo si Brad Pitt at si Dennis Trillo eh.
Ako & Eydee: KAPAAAAAL!!
Aeron: DIDN'T I HANDSOME??
Tawanan nalang kami.
Gusto niyong mabasa ang gawa ni Aeron?
Eto oh, click this link: THE VALKYRIES.

He just graduated from elementary last Thursday, March 29, 2012.
The 2012 batch of elementary graduates are the first batch of students of the new curriculum of the Philippine education, the K+12.
I'll state a brief introduction to this K+12 curriculum as an introduction.
K+12 Program is new system of education initiated by the Aquino Administration. This requires the students to undergo kindergarten, 6 years of elementary, 4 years of junior high school and the added 2 years of senior high school.
The programs aims to uplift the Philippine's quality of education  for the graduates to be easily employed. Because for sure, students graduating from this program who are not planning to continue to college are already 18 years of age which is the minimum age to be employed.
It also aims to meet the standards required for professionals who would want to work abroad.
For more information about this, just watch the news or Google it. Hehe.
Aeron was a bit unfavor of this new system of education but he just cannot do anything about it. Oh well, I just hope this will help the nation's development.

FREEDOM!!!

  3. Boring. Kung wala kang class from Friday to Sunday, anong gagawin mo sa loob ng tatlong araw? Ako? Natutulog. Pero nagsisimba ako every Saturday.
  7. Pag naubos ang allowance, oh my lumbay.
  8. Mabagal/ mahirap ang internet connection. Pero di naman sa lahat ng pagkakataon.
  9. Kung hindi friendly, I'm sorry.
  10. Haaaay.
Masaya talaga! Promise!

How about you?

Hello to the last week of second semester! I only have 3 days remaining then I can go home already. How exciting. Haha! But before getting too much excited, I need to get nervous first and should pass the qualifying exam.  And before I cram for the last minute, I wanted to share how blessed I was yesterday.
The Orion Nebulae
I woke up late for church. It was already 7:30 am and church is starting at 8:15 am. I just do not really know why… when in getting to class most students don’t want to be late but when going to church? Oh no, one hour late, two hours late, even three hours late. Haaaay, buhay. Anyway, I got up at around a quarter to 8:00 am. We prepared, dressed up, and went to church. We left the dormitory at 9:00 and of course, we’re expecting the expected- late for Sabbath School. We found empty benches near front and just listened while Sabbath School lesson was on going. We can’t participate to the class because we have not studied the lesson for the week. How disappointing, right?
Sabbath School ended and Divine Service came next. The message that morning was about God’s micro and macro universe. The messenger God had sent to deliver His message was Mr Balila, the head of Math and Physics Department. As to his profession so is the message.  He expounded the verse, Psalm 8:3-4 “When I consider the heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?”
He demonstrated some calculations of the distance of the universe for which technology we have cannot reach beyond 10 raised to 27 light years away. From the widest thing beyond our imagination can reach to the tiniest atom which we can only calculate up to 10 to the -15 meters. That is how big and small the universe God had created that we can only say that we are insignificant. That is why David, the Psalmist asked God why do He still care for sinners like us, think of us, even saved us when God has all these wonders which are much greater?
The Orion Constellation
Mr Balila went further to Einstein’s popular formula of Energy, E=mc2. He explained that before we can ever go to another galaxy, which is outside our own Milky Way Galaxy, we need lots and lots of energy. We also have studied stars, nebulas, and constellations. The most controversial constellation to SDA’s  is the Orion Constellation. Orion is shaped like an archer and inside this cluster of stars, we can find the Orion Nebula. Inside Orion Nebula is a wide space and inside this wide space is over 2, 000 thousand stars which gives light to the Nebula. According to Ellen G. White, this is where Jesus will come out during His second coming.
A video was presented where we can imagine a trip from earth to the Orion Constellation to the Nebula until reaching the New Jerusalem Jesus had prepared to God’s Holy Throne where Jesus intercedes before us.  The next scene in the video was the coming of Jesus with His thousands of angels coming through the Nebula until they will reach earth. What a glorious sight!
As Mr Balila was concluding, He said the he wants to be with God in that special place prepared for His own children together with his loved ones in life. And the last statement he said was, “How about you?”
And that left me hanging although I was already full of facts and blessing. It left me still comprehending how marvellous God’s works are. It left me astonished and excited. It left me a big responsibility over myself and over God’s commission He entrusted to His disciples. It left me being inspired to be more faithful, obedient, and get ready for there are more tests and challenges coming our ways for which through only Jesus Christ, we can succeed.

Sundown Worship

Last Friday night while I was on Facebook, a friend chatted me and asked me if I can join their morning devotional inside the university campus. Unfortunately, I’m went back home and cannot join them. I told him I can’t go but will go back to AUP in the afternoon. So he told that I can still join the sundown worship. I responded positively and he asked me if can render a special song. I hesitated at first but I just can’t say no so of course, I said yes. :D
The whole Sabbath morning I spent at our church. I got to leave the house at 2:30 in the afternoon. I did not forget that I am going to sing this afternoon because I was still thinking what song to sing. 4:15 pm came, I was still at the jeepney going to AUP when Kuya Elly (the person who invited me) texted and told me that at 4:30 they will start the worship. To make the long ride short, I arrived at the place of worship late. I saw them sitting at the middle of the soccer field, a group of men standing and with their looks, they were singing. And that was when I thought – oh no, real late. But I still approached them and joined the worship. Truth is I only know the people by their faces. They are all cafeteria workers; the only person I know among them was Kuya Elly and the other two who are my classmates in a Bible subject. Kuya Elly sat beside me, I apologized for being late and he told me, I should sing the appeal song. I thought I was already saved from singing but I was not. I was still not ready but I had a song in mind. I was just not sure yet if the song is appropriate to the message.
I listened closely to the message and it was indeed inspiring! The message was delivered for student workers but as I reflect upon the words, it can be addressed to anybody.
In life, there are many persons we will meet and we will be spending time with. Some can be constructive to our well-beings while others can really be destructive, some won’t even care. But our approach with these cases can dictate how we will react and how it can affect our lives.
Life is really not easy. Some students need to spend many years in college because they spend more in working than studying. While others might be financially stable but there is something that lacks in the family.  I know that we cannot point to someone the cause why we are experiencing these but the decisions and choices we make in our lives can make a big difference.
We can never erase the challenges we have in life. That is why in Joshua 1:6-7, as quoted earlier in our worship, "Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them. Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest."
And we must not also forget that whenever we need help, God is always there. Jeremiah 33:3, "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."Help will come at the very right time we need it.
I like this statement the speaker shared, “If we need money and asked God for it, He will not send directly money to us. Money will not come down from heaven and there it is, God-given. God is not like that. What He will give us is a job where we can work to gain what we need.”
I realized I am really blessed to have a family that fully supports my needs in life; not only financially and emotionally but most specially the spiritual aspect. I was also inspired by these workers and I thought that they are even lucky or should I say blessed because they had the chance to work and be trained early. And we know that if a person would work hard for something, something better will come to their lives as a return.

So, at the end of the message, I was to sing. And I sang this song:

The most awaited phenomena. If we are found faithful, all our hardships here on earth will be worth it. If found unblemished of sin, we are worth it to be called sons and daughters of God. If we are found efficient, we are worthy to be members of God’s Kingdom.
Soon and very soon.

Haiku

While having my last class for this really loooooonnnngg Monday, my classmate asked me to help her compose a "Haiku". Honestly, I do not know what Haiku was so she just told me what to do and what to write. So basically, Haiku is a three lined poem. First line is only composed of 5 syllables, second line is 7, and the last is again 5 syllables.
Without further questioning her, I started boggling my tired mind.
She told me that the theme is nature and that there must be no rhyming and no metaphors. AND THE RESULT, AFTER 15 MINUTES..

Upon that mountain
Where air so freely breezing
Soon shall gently feel.

There, my first haiku. I know, I know it's not good, but at least I tried. And while having the last Adventist Dormitory Circle Worship at Philippine International Church later this evening, another Haiku was composed.

I shall let you go
Like the stone I had threw off
And bounced in surface.

Hayyynakuu. But composing a Haiku was fun. Here's a bit of what I searched about Haiku:
In traditional Japanese, the haiku was often written in one long string, from top to bottom, using 17 onji (sound-symbols), the shortest unit of meaning. These onji were usually divided into 3 sections, with the middle one being slightly longer than the others; a pause at the end of the first or second section often divided the haiku into two thoughts or images which contrasted or combined to make a striking perception, usually involving nature. Some call this Haiku Moment. Others refer to this moment of revelation shared by poet and reader as the ahness of the haiku.

Gastritis (Acute Gastritis, Stomach Flu, Inflammation of the Stomach)

Last week Friday, I was admitted at the Adventist University of the Philippines Health Services Center at 7:00 in the morning. Why? Because I was suffering AGAIN from the pain of Gastritis.
That was the third time being confined due to the same pain, and in almost three years time, it was the fourth time that it attacked me.
The pain last week was much longer and worse than before. I stayed at the clinic for almost 50 hours for observations, medications, and some tests.
Being stubborn is the first cause why I still suffer from this very unwanted ache.
And because I do not want other people to be affected too by this kind of pain, here are some information about this Gastro-intestinal disease and how one can prevent it.

Gastritis is an inflammation, irritation, or erosion of the lining of the stomach. This includes both the stomach and the intestine.

THE SYMPTOMS:
Nausea, vomiting, fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain, burning and gnawing feeling in the stomach between meals or at night, loss of appetite, and muscle aches. Acute symptoms generally last only 24-72 hours.

THE CAUSES:
It is usually caused by viral (sometimes bacterial) infection, allergies, stress, chemical irritation, or medicinal drugs. Antibiotics are a frequent cause; they weaken the body so a virus can attack.
It may be caused by excessive alcohol, food poisoning, or a bacterial infection. An attack can be triggered by drugs, such as aspirin, or anti arthritic medications.
It may also be caused by one of the following:

  • Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori): A bacteria that lives in the mucous lining of the stomach. Without treatment, infection can lead to ulcers, and in some people, stomach cancer.
  • Pernicious Anemia: A form of anemia that occurs when the stomach lacks a naturally occurring substance needed to properly absorb and digest vitamin B12.
  • Bile reflux: A backflow of bile into the stomach from the bile tract (that connects to the liver and gallbladder).
NATURAL REMEDIES:
  • Begin by giving the person activated charcoal: Each dose should be 4 capsules, 8 tablets, or 1-2 tablespoons of powder stirred into a glass of water. Give a dose each time there is vomiting or diarrheal stools.
  • Keep him in bed and give a clear liquid diet during the acute stage while there is nausea and vomiting. Throughout the day give small amounts of water, fruit juices, or ice chips to help restore lost fluid.
  • When the vomiting and diarrhea cease, give small amounts of non-irritating food such as cooked rice, plain cooked potatoes, cooked carrots, bananas, or apple sauce.
  • Do no be quick to let him get out of bed; for the vomiting and loss of fluids may have weakened him.
  • In small children and infants especially, watch for signs of dehydration. These signs include drowsiness, rapid respiration, and dry skin and mucous membranes. This is important.
  • Mix 1 tsp catnip tea leaves in a cup of water, step for 15 minutes, and drink while warm. This is very soothing to the digestive system. If it is vomited up, give again immediately; it is more likely to be accepted and kept down the second time.
  • If fluids cannot be kept down, then give small saline enemas, to replace lost body fluids. Using 1 level of teaspoon of slat per pint of water, inject 1-2 ounces of the solution into the rectum (using a small rubber bulb syringe). Then hod the buttocks together for several minutes. Do this every 1-2 hours until improvement is seen and he is able to take fluids by mouth.
SIGNS AND TESTS:
  • Complete blood count (CBC) to check for  anemia or low blood count
  • Examination of the stomach with an endoscope (esophagogastroduodenoscopy or EGD)
  • H.pylori tests
  • Stool test to check for small amounts of blood in the stools, which may be a sign of bleeding in the stomach.
MEDICINES THAT DOCTORS CAN PRESCRIBE:
Over-the-counter and prescription drugs that decrease the amount of acid in the stomach, such as:
Antacids may be used to treat chronic gastritis caused by infection with Helicobacter pylori bacteria.

AVOID:
  • Avoid junk beverages(colas, black tea, coffer, or alcohol); for they will only irritate and intensify the symptoms. Caffeine inflames the stomach.
  • Avoid processed and greasy foods; avoid milk and high-roughage foods. Avoid all irritants: salt, pepper, strong spices, and very acidic foods.
  • Do not smoke or be near those who smoke.
  • Search out offending foods and stop using them.
I hope this can be a very big help to you guys who have Gastritis like me. I got this because the hydrochloric acid in my stomach produces too much. And when I do not eat meals at the right time, this acid will still produce though there is nothing to digest inside the stomach causing it to be inflamed and irritated. Six weeks is the minimum length of time I can cure it by just eating on time and eating the right foods. As of now, I am taking Ranitidine and Omeprazole as prescribed by the doctor.
Stress is also one of the first causes. Beware and be careful when it comes and hit you. There are much more disease it can bring.
Prevention is better than cure! :D

For an encouragement:
God has a heaven full of blessings that He wants to bestow on those who are earnestly seeking for that help. ~Proverbs 10:22
